Legal Framework

The Management Body of Mt. Ainos National Park  is an authority governed by private law and was established in 2002, by the Law 3044/2002 (Gov. Gazette 197/A/27-8-2002), in accordance with the Law 1650/15-10-1986 (Gov. Gazette 160/A/18-10-1986) and Law 2742/1999 (Gov. Gazette 207/A/7-10-1999).

Its purpose is to manage and protect the region "Mount Ainos National Park". Among the responsibilities of the Management Body is the systematic monitoring of the environmental parameters of the protected region, collaboration with the competent authorities to ensure control and enforcement of the environmental legislation and informing, and educating the public regarding the protected region. Its aim is the sustainable management of the protected area "Mount Ainos National Park". It is also responsible for the protection of all flora, fauna and natural formations within the "National Park".

The Agency is supervised by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and financed by the Operational Programme «Environment and Sustainanble Development 2007-2013». It is a non profit organisation.

The Management Body of Mount Ainos National Park is run by a nine-member Board of Directors whose composition was determined by the No. 28501 Decision of the Minister for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works (28501/21-12-2009 Gazette 538). In the Board of Directors, a range of institutions are represented, whose object is to manage the region «Mt. Ainos National Park». Emet. Professor Kamari Georgia  is appointed as the Chairman of the Management Body.

The Management Body is currently housed in the Koutavos Environmental Centre at Argostoli in Cephalonia island, Greece.
